Ange roman final (revised)

THE AMERICAN DREAM
To truly understand the American dream you must 1st discuss what happiness is to you. the pursuit of happiness is what we strive for, but unfortunately a long life’s path we often stray. the definition of happiness is truly defined by the person pursuing it . in the Great Gatsby the American dream is satire as a lust for parties , money , and women . but Gatsby dream was not that of money but love...although it cost him dearly.IT was a confusing time when the American dream was fabricated. it was meant to be a beacon a light of freedom in a dark oppressed world but this once proud symbolic teardrop of illumination fell into a tainted river of darkness cast out with what god would call sin but business men call "fair exchange".So the question stands still what is our American dream? a corrupt joyride for money and power as they ride across the faces of those that once walked along side him as friends and neighbors ? or a tragically poetic ballad of a struggle for love and inner tranquility i question this because Gatsby achieved the generic American dream of money and power only to achieve his personal American dream of love but for all his riches he got no love in the end his boundless loveand money served him an ill fate and he was murdered. But Tom on the other hand went virtually unscathed like nothing had ever happened in his own little utopia. so......Gatsby wanted love and was murdered? While tom wanted money and women and still got what he desired to me this speaks more than just that ending. Gatsby worked his whole life for everything he had and did it for the sole purpose of finding his lost love again and was killed for it ,while tom had everything handed to him and after Gatsby's death continued and if nothing happened it tells the ancient tale of irony . If that’s our dream what does that portray for the struggle of good and evil.In conclusion what the definition of life is is up for vast interpretation and rethinking The American dream being comprised of the pursuit of happiness, for some its and impossible an fantastic creature of wonder and majesty that they will never catch ...but for others that beautiful and majestic beast is easy to capture if they can shoot out its kneecaps

The American Dream

The U.S.A. have a consistent growth of immagrants who leaeve everything they had behind to find the American Dream. It's not just immgrants it americans too who believe in the american dream. But what's the american dream? The american dream to me is nothing but illusion of society searching for a folish dream. No matter how hard people try it will never exceed its expectation and you will always work for the white man.
Gatsby was a victim of the american dream,Gatsby believe that having money,a big house and parties everyday was the life. But the truth was his dream was cut short by haters who hated seeing suceed. So they killed him and it ended, so no matter how rich and powerful you are think you will always be a chump.

The American Dream has a different perspective to everyone; to me it means a successful struggle. In the book The Great Gatsby it shows how Jay Gatsby has struggled form nothing to something.

Gatsby struggles form being no one to being a well known party host. He's a bootlegger, during the prohibition era in the 1920's. Even though he is not doing the correct thing at that time according to the law, that is his struggle right there. Nohting comes easy in life and sometimes you have to take risks to obtain that certain goal.

One major point is that no matter how wrong it is what Gatsby is doing or how he is a bootlegger, he is happy. Enjoying what you have in life is an important essential to the American Dream. You can reach the highest peak in your life, but if you are not happy it doesn't matter because, you as a being a person, in your inner self you will feel like a failure.

Reaching the American Dream, doesn't always mean having all the materialistic things. Like Gatsby we was happy, but he knew he was still missing that little thing that mattered to him so much...his love, Daisy.

In conclusion the American Dream is just the way someone takes risks and has ambitions to make a better person with him/herself and everyone around them that they care about.

Adam Williams ENG2(8) Final Exam

Everyone has an "American Dream". It gives hope and inspiration to many people. The hope that they believe they can achieve certain things with a certain circumstance.
Many will spend a lifetime trying to achieve the "American Dream", but very few will actually live it. All the others will keep on dreaming, never knowing that the "American Dream" is to be happy with yourself not to be happy with the wealth.
This is were The Great Gatsby plays a major role.

The American Dream

Every American has the aspiration to be healthy, have wealth and live an enjoyable life. They want to do the best and be the best. Many will chase the same dream, but only a few will successfully reach the American Dream. All the others will just keep on dreaming.
In the Taming of the Shrew, Hortensio and lucentio want Petruchio to get married to Katherine. She is a very wealthy woman but with little beauty. Petruchio is willing enough to marry such an ugly looking woman, all just for the money. Petruchio is one of many that is one the chase for the American Dream. Just like all the others he will do whatever to make that dream reality.
Mr. Gatsby was a victim of the American Dream as well, Gatsby believed that having loads of money, a big mansion and parties everyday was the life. He was a powerful man and was strictly business. His success was cut short by people who hate seeing others succeed, but themselves. Too much success can lead to many problems including death. That is why to many people the American Dream is just an illusion and to those who are really living it, watch out cause you might have a pack of haters behind your back.

The American Dream
People that does not lived in the United State think that the American Dream exist because they see people in the television that have a great life in the United State and heard people about their great life.
In that moment is when they are staring to think that their life would be better in the United State because they can have things that they would never have in their land. They think is easy to get all those things they dream about it, but is not they have to work hard for it.
When people decide to go to the United State they notice is not easy as they though. They have to a green card an order to get a job. Also they need a green card too is to get an apartment to lived. To the ilegal people the life in not easy in the United State they are the people that suffer the most.
I don't think that the American Dream exist because my life is not great as we can say even I was born in the United State. My dream have not come out true. When they come out true I can say that I belived in the American Dream. Gatsby belived in the American Dream because he got rich and got all the things that he dream. So when I get my dream come out I"ll say it.

ORLANDO_RAMIREZ____ENG 2(8) - FINAL EXAM

The American Dream is a symbol for opportunity wealth and happiness, for many immigrants its what derived them to come and stay in this country. the American Dream is just a dream a never ending illusion that confuses people into chasing this so called opportunity. the American Dream to many people involves money and power, allot of people do come to achieve this but can they be happy while in process. Money and power never balances with happiness.
An example of this comes form one the greatest literature novels; "The Great Gatsby". James Gatz , also known as Gatsby, wasn't a fictional character. To many he was considered a bootlegger, someone that exports alcohol while alcohol was illegal, while so many consider him a bootlegger, this also considered fact about the man. Gatsby was a very lonely he barely had friends and the friends he had were barely loyal to him, the cause of all this was money and his power, he was so upsest with money he eventually got corrupted and lost everything in the end.
Gatsby thought he could find happiness by finding his so called love. Even then money took that away from him.
The American Dream will always be an illusion. People will always whant more then what they got it is just the sad reality of humans. It is our nature to whant more then what they got and then some.

cain villanueva eng 8

Every person has an american dream to come to the united states. They come here for better life to be happy. They are inspired just to live here and get away fron there country. They come to provide for there family.

In the Gatsby story I believe that he has a american dream to live as happily as he can. There is always struggle in life. Like in Gatsby situation when he came back from ythe war he was penny less so he had to work his way up to get what he wont'ed. As he got richhe still was not happy because he did not have the girl of his dream.

So comparing both of the american dream and Gatsby story I believe that Gatsby did not complete his American dream because he was not satisfy with his life.So there you have on both the American dream and Gatsby. So it shows to come that everything is not as beutiful as you think in America.

Kyale Rollins ENG 2(8) - FINAL EXAM

The American dream can be what ever you want it to be. It can be the success and riches that makes you happy or love a family or even just being able to do whatever you want. It just all depends on who you are and what makes you happy. But there are times you have to do things or not do things you want to do to gain that dream. The perfect example of that would be Jay Gatsby in The Great Gatsby.
His dream is to be with daisy but he feels to do so he must be rich and successful. With a huge house, a nice car and huge parties he try’s to draw his long lost love into his dream. To do this he has to go to war and get many metals, go to oxford, and sell illegal alcohol. Even though he does these things he still can’t bring his love back to him which just shatters his dream. But he does live the ideal American dream which is to be successful and rich. And that is the life that tom wants to live.
Tom is the perfect example for the ideal American dream because he has loads of money, nice houses, beautiful cars and a trophy wife. He is just a possession loving man he brags about his life to everyone he comes into contact with. The first time nick goes to his house you see his arrogance and his possessive nature. Most people strive for this dream just so they can have nice things but as tom realizes they’re just items as he begins to lose the things he hold dearest. But just having money and nice things isn’t my ideal dream. That’s why nicks dream appeals to me so much.
Nick just lives his life and doesn’t really care about money and riches. To him the most important things are friends and family. He is probably the most laid back person in the story. He is always there for daisy he comforts here an actually notices what makes her happy. And as he gets attached to Jordan he loves her more an more. He is one of those people who id=s ok with a small house and unattended grass.
If I had to pick some ones dream for my own life I would pick nicks because it’s the best one to live by and that is how I live my life now. Or try to anyways. So your dream really is anything you can make it. You just have to be willing to strive for it.

Solomon Rollins ENG 8 - Final Exam

The American Dream Final

Millions of people ask themselves every single day whether the American Dream is a reality or an illusion. Some say that its reality. Some say it’s an illusion. And some say its both, depending on who you are or your determination. I believe its both. It just depends on your determination.
It’s portrayed in The Great Gatsby. Gatsby himself became an achiever of the American Dream through determination to succeed in life. He had started at a young age. Making a list of what is important and how to succeed. Than as he went on in life, even in his lowest stage in life he was still determined to succeed. No matter what he had to do to become a success. He even shared his wealth with others by throwing parties (even if it was to get Daisy to come to one).
Than there’s those who don’t have the determination. Whether it be because someone convinced them that they would never be successful, no matter what they did (this comes in case of our school, so many kids are told they’ll never amount to nothing and then listen to it), or whether they’re just to lazy to even try. Another example would be Myrtle Wilson. The woman never tried. She basically slacked off and pretended to be successful with her fancy clothes and the fancy parties. Than there’s also Jordan and Daisy; who’s success was just handed to them. These three women really didn’t try and trampled those who ever stood against them. (Even if it was the ones they loved.)
Finally there are those where it’s in between for them. You have those that at one time try and succeed but then get to a point and give up and just lay back and become comfortable with mediocre life. Like Nick Carraway. He just goes through life striving for better life, yet still goes from job to job not really caring where they go or what they do. He just has his little house surrounded by all the mansions with all his friends that will take care of him. His little job where, he’s not important but just does enough to satisfy his boss. He just snuffs off the success; to comfortable with his way of life that he’s lost his drive and determination to succeed.
So, yeah it is both a reality and an illusion. It just all comes down to haw much you want it. How comfortable you are with just mediocre or how lazy you are. But the American Dream is reality to those who try and an illusion to those who don’t or a little of both to those who get to a certain point and than just give up on it.

Ofelia Sanchez ENG 2(8)

The American Dream is a hope that many people have. Many foreigners come to America to become more in life, to get things that was impossible to have in their native land. A better job to start with is the most important one to become better in America. You need experience to do anything not just here in America but in every country. An education is a must to succeed in America. An education will provide you and your family the comfort of living a more stress free life, simply because you won't need to worry about expenses.
To achieve the American Dream you also need to be willing to work hard. You have to have the heart set to accomplish your goals. If your not willing to do that then there is a slight chance you'll put off your goals and dreams. Also have the courage to try different things, even if you think its impossible to do. Many people give up in their dreams, just because they don't see results instantly. But thats one thing no one should ever do, is give up. If you really want something just be the best you can be. The American Dream is not just about getting rich or famous. Its about being free to do what you want and speak whenever you feel the need to speak. To have the opportunity to be yourself.
The relationship between the American Dream and The Great Gatsby is similar in many ways. Gatsby came to this country to better himself. He did the American Dream in just couple of years. He set his mind to it and achieved his goals. Gatsby wanted to be better and well respected and thats what he did. He made his dream happen simply to have what he was never able to get in his country.
Gatsby got rich the easy way, with the help of his mentor. Either way he accomplished what he wanted. He had a rough time getting where he wanted, but he never gave up. Gatsby ended up with everything he ever wanted. Thats how any dream could turn out a reality or just another illusion.

Mele Pasa ENG2(8) - FINAL EXAM

Theme:
Gender Roles: Men vs Women
Texts used in essay:
The Great Gatsby (F. Scott Fitzgerald)
Taming of the Shrew (William Shakespeare)

In the texts The Taming of the Shrew and The Great Gatsby, Men vs Women is a clear issue that shows how different gender roles are. They show how women are mistreated and have high expectations from the men in the texts.

In the Taming of the Shrew, the women are assumed to be obedient to what is expected of them Katherine is a character who does not agree witht his idea of women being obedient. I like how she stands up for herself and that she does not agree with her father and how he tells her what to do. Bianca, on the other hand, does what her father tells her to. She is very sweet and obedient but seriously, to me shes a disgrace to women because she is so easy trick, manipulate and walk all over. In the Great Gatsby, Daisy is expected to stay home and and be a mother to her daughter. Instead she does what she likes behind her husbands back. All three of these women do not show what the characteristics of what a real woman should be like. Because they are taken for granted, the characteristics, behaviour and attitudes of these women are not so great. In Bianca's case she wouldn't feel this way because shes a spoilt brat.

In both the Taming of the Shrew and the Grat Gatsby, the male roles of the characters show that they have high expectations of the women and they do whatever they like. Baptista, Katherine's father, expects her to be more like Bianca. Petruchio also expects Katherine to be obedient as his wife, to do whatever he says and in the end he accomplishes this. He turns Katherine into an obedient wife. In the Great Gatsby, Tom expects Daisy to stay home all day with their daughter. Not to go out, unless she goes with him. Also in the Great Gatsby, Gatsby expects Daisy to give all that up. To be his lover. To leave her husband and child for him. He wants her to say that she never loved Tom. Gatsby could have ended up with Daisy but it was his high expectations of her that killed it. I believe if he didn't expect too much of her, she would have left Tom.

Both texts have shown that male roles are much more different to womens. It's like men are seen as masters, and women are seen as slavesbecause women are highly expected to be obedient to what is asked of them and they are commonly taken for granted.

ALEXIS BONILLA___ENG 2(8) - FINAL EXAM

In the United States immigrants sway from their country's to start a new beginning. This wanting of a new beginning is sparked by a belief, a rumor called The American Dream. The American Dream is an exaggerated idea that in a way. Gives motivation to the people who are near giving up.
The American dream is something that everyone wants. But struggle to achieve this goal of wealth, happiness, good health, and of course love. The American Dream is just an illusion that motivates a person to continue in the reality. The American Dream is hope to people for new and better possibilities.
In the Great Gatsby for example, James Gatz is obsessed with Daisy Buchanan. His first love but in a sudden change of fate. James and Daisy meet themselves in a fork in the road and their paths diverged.
James Gatz thrives threw life for seven years. He was becoming wealthy in corrupt ways and James Gatz changes his name to the elegant sounding Jay Gatsby. He put his new name to good use, making it well known by society. He was now young, wealthy, and well known he had it all except happiness. Then he finds Daisy but she has a family now. Gatsby being so obsessed doesn't care and wants her back to live in his dream world. But in the end Gatsby is murdered and all his accomplishments, flushed all away and so close to achieving them.
He had the American Dream in his hands but when you got their it was no longer a dream or an illusion. It was reality, its life at its best just stop asking for more and just cherish it and live it. because one day that believer will be there. It will be hard times and good times but they'll be there someday.

Richard Solonia ENG 2 (8) Final Exam

In the Great Gatsby, the American Dream is a main theme in the story. It shows how people change after they make money and how their relationships with other people change. But the American Dream isn’t what everyone expects it to be.
Jay Gatsby was a poor boy before the war and until he met Wolfsheim. He was James Gatz and changed his name as soon as he got rich. That’s one way how someone changes after getting rich. He also changed his lifestyle by having a mansion with a large area of land and throws parties almost every weekend.
Gatsby throws large parties. One reason I think he throws large parties but not mentioned in the book was to have some popularity and the other reason in being to hopefully someday to meet Daisy again at one of his parties. Daisy was his girlfriend before he went to war and he wanted to be with her again.
In the American Dream, big parts of it is settling down and live in a nice home with a perfect American family. Gatsby finally gets Daisy’s attention at one of the parties he threw and wanted to be with her again. Daisy is married to Tom Buchanan and he is heart broken. The American Dream is about trying to get rich and succeed in life from failures and attempts. A good social life is one part and having a perfect American family is another. There were some failed attempts Gatsby had. His last dream was to be with Daisy again but she was married to someone else. That must have been a huge failure for him. That’s why the Great Gatsby is a good example of the American Dream.

Frances Reyes, ENG 2(8)- FINAL EXAM

The Great Gatsby used the American Dream as big part of the idea in the story. But, Is the American Dream really possible? Or is there even such thing as an American Dream? This is something many people say they are going for. But, in reality what is this ambition everyone is working so hard for? Money? Happiness? Luxury?
This beautiful story tells us how a man works so hard for love. How he accomplicious this so called American Dream to be with the person he loves. For this love he need money. Knowing that Dasiy his love was a wealthy women with a good family name. As though for him, he was a poor young man. Gatsby knew he need to be wealthy too. Just to even think about being with Dasiy.
He started working for this Dream. To become a wealthy man and be successful. His ambition to be with Dasiy was what made him want this so bad. To get money even in an illegale way. He was a smart young man that soon learned the bootleg business. He bootleged alcohol to win all his money. He was soon a really wealthy man. He had acopplished his dream to become rich. His American Dream came true. He had money.
With all this money and all the success why was he not happy then. Why was his story not a happy ending? All his money could not buy him love. It could not make Dasiy love him as much as he loved her. Hit could not make her leave everything behinde to leave with him. All his money did not bring him happiness.
So you see, this is what i think about. What is this so called American Dream? To me it really does not excist. Its just life that we need to live. Live for what can make us happy. Have goals to reach, be ambitious on everything you do. But mostly enjoy what you have.

Rigoberto Rivera ENG 2(8) - FINAL EXAM

One big theme we addressed this semester was the "American Dream." A book that we read that delt withthis theme was "The Great Gastby." In this essay Im going to write about how the American Dream was a reality or an illusion.
In the book "The GreatGatsby"theres a story of a man named James Gatsby who tries to achieve his American Dream. Which was to be wealthy, which he achieves. But he was never really happy when he was rich, untill he met up with his old lost love. Agirl named Dasiy Bucannon. Then he starts to learn that money isn't everything in the world(even though it wold be nice to have money). So i think he started to find out that there was more to the American Dream then he had thought.
For me my American Dream is to be happy, wealthy, and to be surrounded by the people I love. I would say my American Dream can be reality, because I'm alomst always surrounded by the people I love. If that were to happen then i would alwasy be happy and charish every moment. The only thing that would be an illusion wold be to be very wealthy. I think i might just be middle class wealthy. Which would be okay with me i wouldn't mind. But I'd like to be the higher part of the middle class.
I think it all comes down to what your American Dream is. Because everyones American Dream could be different, but you never know. So your American dream can be either a reality or an illusion, depending on your dream.

Miguel Ramos ENG- Final Exam

The American dream can be seen in The Great Gatsby because he has what we all want, which is money. For most people money is the American dream because they feel that their problems will be over when they are rich. In Gatsby's case he had the money but not the happiness. What he wanted most in life was Daisy, which is the reason he set out to become rich. When he returned he discovered that Daisy had married for the money and not waited for him to return.
Another part of the American dream is settling down and having a family. Gatsby was not able to do this because the girl of his dreams is married. He loves someone that he can't have. He did not really have any respect unless you wanted to party at his house. When he died he was forgotten like nothing.
In Hamlet, the American dream is being wealthy as well. Hamlet is the son of a king. However the American dream is disrupted when Hamlet's uncle kills his dad in order to be crowned king. Soon after Hamlet's mom marries the uncle and he becomes king. The king becomes a thing of the past because everybody thinks the king dies from a snake bite. Hamlet, enraged by all of this, is suspicious of his fathers death. Soon after he is visited by a spirit which turns out to be his father, who tells him what really happened.
After he hears his father he sets up a play similar to his family in which the uncle kills the king to let the uncle that he knows. The American dream is only here because of the money, power, and respect that they have. There is no happiness at all. In a way you could say that the American dream is an illusion in this story.

Marsella Ramirez 4th period FINAL ESSAY

Many people think that fortune, money, and great luxuries are all part of life's necessities and wants, but all those things lead to one "big" thing. and that is called "the American Dream". Its what us as people dream to have, but can't because its just way too far from being real. But it's not just about having money and fortune, the "American Dream" is also about LOVE and HAPPINESS.
In the story the "Great Gatsby", Gatsby had reached part of his dream, but all that gave him nothing because in reality he did have everything, but he lost everything. He lost the only person he fell in love with all because he wanted the money. In my opinion I don't think that no one has reached fully the "American Dream" only because they either died or they didn't have the love of someone special.
The "American Dream" is just full of crap, its just all make believe nonsense that people put in their heads thinking that if they dream hard enough great things will happen, but Illusions are far from being perfect.

The American Dream, fact or fiction? Most believe that its real, and all strive for it. the American Dream is not only money, fame, and houses, it's love, happiness, and trust.
Take the great Gatsby for example Gatsby was rich, famous, and had it all except love and happiness that's why Gatsby wanted daisy back in his life. But tom the racist, rich, man that gets everything he wants wasn't liking that. Even though he himself was cheating with myrtle.
So to me nobody in this book reached the American dream because they had died or had not ended up were the wanted to be

angel roman final 4th period

THE AMERICAN DREAM
to truly understand th american dream you must 1st discuss ehat happiness is to you. the pursuit of happiness is what we strive for, but unfortunately a long lifes path we often stray. the definition of happiness is truly defined by the person pursuing it . in the Great Gatsby the american dream is sattired as a lust for parties , money , and women . but Gatsby dream was not that of money but love...although it cost him dearly.
IT was a confusing t ime fwhen the american dream was fabricated . it was meant to be a beacon a light of freedom in a dark oppressed world but this once proud symbollic teardrop of illumination fell into a tainted river of darkness cast out with what god would call sin but buisness men call "fair exchange".
So the question stands still what is our american dream? a corrupt joyride for money and power as they ride across the faces of those that once walked along side him as friends and neighbors ? or a tragicly poetic ballad of a struggle for love and inner tranquility i question this because Gatsby achieved the generic american dream of money and power only to achieve his personal american dream of love but for all his riches he got no love in the end his boundless love
and money served him an ill fate and he was murded .
But Tom on the otherhand went virtually unscaved like nothing had ever happened in his own little utopia . so......Gatsby wanted love and was murdered? While tom wanted money and women and still got what he desired to me this speacks more than just that ending. Gatsby worked his whole life for everything he had and did it for the sole purpose of finding his lost love again and was killed for it ,while tom had everything handed to him and after Gatsby's death continued ans if nothing happened it tells the ancient tale of irony . if thats our dream what does that potray for the struggle of good and evil.
in conclusion what the definition of life is is up for vast interpretation and re anylization .
The american dream being comprised of the pursuit of happiness , for some its and impossible anf fanastic creature of wonder and majesty that they will never catch ...but for others that beautiful and majestic beast is easy to capture if they can shoot out its kneevcaps 1st

Beverly Wilson ENG 8 Final Exam

The roles of women and men rarely change, women most of the time are treated dumb and act dumb. Were men are smart and are the hero's of the story. In "The Great Gatsby" they show the very different roles of men and women. Some roles change in the story but most stay the same.

The first point in the story is that the men are in control of everything, if Tom is not in control of his women his not happy. Meanwhile the women cant live without the men supporting them. They both are stock into these common roles of men and women.

The women are mostly their to be dumb and have no real oppion. Daisy hopes her daughter will be beautiful and dumb. Daisy just wants attention from any man she can get it from. She is a common role of women, to stay at home and take care of the kids not ever thinking past her husband.

Jordan though take a different role she is a single working woman who is in a mans sport. In some ways though she is still in a woman's role. She is dumb at moments and is in every ones business. She is still looking for a husband.

Both women and men rarely step out of their common role they are put in. The men make the money and the women have the kids. The men think for themself and the women keep to themself.

Ubaldo G. Torres ENG (8) - Final Exam

The American Dream
The American Dream is just an illusion that this nation has. People come to America mostly for one reason. That reason is to be rich and wealthy. But being rich and wealthy leads to make people think that everything is going to be good for them when in reality it really isn't.
For years and years the American dream has been to have a great career which is to have a good job that will pay you really good money and will make you rich thinking that's all you need in life. Being rich is something wanted by about every American in this nation and that's basically what the American dream is all about. They feel like being rich will bring happiness into their lives.
In reality the America Dream is just a step closer to the destruction of your social life. Being being rich and not being able to control your money and life which are desires will mess everything up. For example in the Great Gatsby everyone was rich and the women just wanted to be with the rich men and that's where everything crashes because rich men think they can get anything just because they have money and they don't realize that they aren't the only ones with money because there are a lot more people that are rich and wealthy but because those men are all into their little illusion about succeeding to get the American Dream, they don't care about anything else.
A big mistake that is caused about the American Dream is that the rich think that they can buy love with money like in Gatsby when Gatsby tried to attract and make Daisy fall in love with him with money and she did love him but she was also married and in love with Tom because he was rich too and that shows us that you might be loved with money but it wont be true love that gives you happiness because at the end of the novel Gatsby ended up dieing and all of his American Dream was lost and gone in just a small amount of time. He ended up not getting loved by Daisy and most important he lost his life for the American dream. That shows us the real meaning that the American Dream is just a way of ruining your life and future if you don't know how to control everything that right way and be responsible. that's the the American Dream to me.

Jazmin Valdez-- ENG 2 (8) - FINAL EXAM

Fortune, wealth, prosperity. All these words have one thing in common and only one thing, money. This is what the American Dream is made of.

Though in The Great Gatsby the American dream may seem so real and within reach. The sad truth is that its far from reach. This dream that we all have is nothing but just that a dream.

Jay Gatsby was able to reach his "dream" but at what cost? He lost the one person he truly loved, to money. In order to try to get his girl, Daisy, back he had to achieve fortune. A great amount too, He is from a completely different social class that required Daisy to marry into fortune. The American Dream doesn't only consist of wealth but happiness with the one you love, kids, and a beautiful house. Jay only achieved 1/4 of this dream.

Wealth is a reality but the Whole package that we call an American dream is nothing but a wisp of air in our little heads. An illusion that will only be a reality in our dreams.

When he got on the plane the weather was bad. The plane couldnt handle it and crashed itno the ocean. He was stuck in the island by himslef. Chuck stayed alive because he had hope to se his wife again.
It was always about time for him. He also followed orders for his job. When he arrived at the airport he didnt want to go. He wanted to stay with his wife. But it seemed that his job is first and didnt make it to the city. The plane couldnt stand the weather and went down crashing into the ocean. He found a raft and stayed in the ocean with a really bad weather until next morning. Until he arrived at an island.
When he made it to the island it was hard for him because he didnt know what to do next. he did yelled for help but no one seemed to be there with him. He didnt know what to do, He couldnt fish or make fire. He also couldnt pass those big waves with his little rafter or boat.
Chuck stayed in the island for four years. He knew how to fish and make fire. He knew how to take care of a wound when he was hurt. He even pulled a tooth for it not to hurt anymore. Chuck became strong and valued timein the island. What also kept him strong was the picture of his wife. It was hard for him to be the only one talking to a soccer ball but he made it. He made a bigger raft so he could pass the big waves and he accomplished it.
He made it off the island and layed on the raft for awhile wateing to see where the ocean takes him next. But while chuck layed there a ship found him and took him back home. He was finally homw after four years being by himself and tryeing to survive. He went home saw his wife and was happy to see her. She was too. Finally he got to see his wife and be gappy with the new life he would have.
Chuck showed that being a hero dosnt mean by saveing someone or only helping people. But he showed by being strong and to belive in your self even though yout in a bad situation. He made that deep inside you could be a hero for being strong and doing things for your self that you never done before. Like surveing in a island by your self and dont know what to do.

Ofelia Sanchez Final Exam

During the semester we watched many movies one which was Castaway. I chose Castaway because chuck demonstrated to be a real hero. The movie castaway is about a man that gets stuck on an island for four years. He was a person that cared too much about time, everything had to be percise. chuck was a man that lived his like according to time.
Chuck was spending time with his family when he recieved a call from his job. They had asked him to deliever some packages on Christmas. His fiance took him to the airport, before he left they exchanged gifts. She gave him a watch with a picture of herself in it. Chuck gave her a towel and something esle for her bathroom.
During the take off everything was fine, it wasn't till five minutes later that the plane broke down. They were above the ocean, so there was a posibility that one would survive. Chuck woke up on the island not knowing waht to do. He was trapped on the worst island ever. No one ever got near it because of the currents that could leave them standed on the island. The first couple months he was on the island, he didn't know how to do anything. He had trouble fishing, making a shelter, and breaking cocanuts to drink the juice. He got hurt many times trying to escape the island. He finally realized that he wasn't going anywhere. Chuck was hoping someone would find him and save him from his horrible experience.
As time pasted he got used to it. He learned to catch his food and find his right drinks. Chuck was tired of being lonely and not be able to talk to someone. He found packages from the plane and opened them. There was a ball that he kept and named Wilson. Chuck treated it like a human. He talked to it and painted a face on him. Desiring a hot meal, he repeatedly tried amking a fire.
Four yeas later he has built a strong raft, of course he has to take Wilson with him, being his only companion. Chuck makes it out and has hope to be found right away. As he lays there thinking of lost Wilson a ship spots him and saves Chuck. The excitment of seeing his fiance Chuck learnd that she is married. They talk knowing they can't be together right there and then.
Chuck was a hero for many reasons, he learned to value time. Not caring if it goes scheduled or planned out. He sees life a day to day adventure.

Elizabeth Rodriguez Final Exam

During this first semester of my senior year in high school we read the book Fahrenhiet 451. After reading a few chapters we saw the movie. In my opinion I liked the book but disliked the movie, I don't think it was good enough. The main characters of this book are Montage, Mildred, Clarisse, Beatty, Faber and the suicide women. In this book nobody was allow to read books, every book ws to be burned. Montage was a fireman, but his job was to burn books.
Two of my favorite characters were Mildred and Clarisse. They are the complete opposite of eachother and that is what is interesting to me. Mildred is Montage's wife. In the book Clarisse is only 17 years old and is a student. Mildred is crazy she tried killing herself while Clarisse is in love with life, she likes to question everything and talk to people.
Clarisse is a young free spirit girl, she doesn't follow the crowd, she is an outcast. Clarisse is more of an individual and Mildred likes to go along with the crowd she enjoys watching TV shows, she goes more with comformity than individuality. When Montage started talking to Clarisse he changed. He felt happier being with Clarisse than with his own wife.
Clarisse helped Montage feel better. She made him realize a lot of things. Montage started questioning his job, books and even the government. He had been collecting books since we started reading the book, he later on realized he liked reading the books. Mildred never helped Montage, she always went along with the crowd. Mildred was young full of life and questions and that is why Montage felt good when he was with her.
The only similarity Mildred and Clarisse have is that they are both girls. I liked Clarisse's personality better. In a way I can identify my personality with hers. She is more individual and I like that Mildred is just there and doesn't do or think much. Montage would of been happier with Clarisse than with Mildred.

Adam Williams Final Exam:Fahrenheit 451

Mildred and Clarrise are both women and have some type of relationship with

Montag. They also Have many differences for things in life.

Mildred is a person who wants the richer things in life. Like the walls she has up is a

surround television set. She also hates books and believe in getting rid of them. She likes

watching television more and staying inside.

Clarrise on the other hand wanted more of an education. She loved to read books alot,

to where she would risk of being arrested just to be able to gain more knowledge. She also loved

reading outside.

Mildred and Clarrise didn't have many things in common. The most they had in common is

that they are both woman and have a relationship with Montag.

The most important thing this novel has told me is that more and more people

are slipping away from books and spending more time in front of the television.

Chuck was more interested in his responsibility of his job. He wanted everything on time and time was everything to him. Chuck becomes stranded on an island after his plane crashes and he learns to survive on his own for four years and learns to make fire out of sticks. He escapes the island and is discovered by a fishing ship and returns home.
Chuck was a responsible manager for Fed-Ex and wanted every package to come in on time. He would be furious if the packages were sent out later than expected and didn’t have much respect from his co-workers. Testing the company’s speed, he sent a package containing a timer and sent it halfway around the world to see how long it takes for the package to return.
The main character has to go on a plane to deliver some packages and decides to leave his fiancée for the trip. His plane crashes into the ocean and Chuck, being the only survivor from the accident, is washed up on the beach of an uncharted island. He then realizes that he must survive on his own. He comes across some packages that have also washed up on the shore and utilizes most of them for a lot unusual ways like using an ice skate to remove a rotting tooth.
He found a volleyball in one of the packages and calls it Wilson. Chuck talks to the volleyball so he doesn’t feel lonely and talks to him for some advice. Wilson helps him through tough situations and helps chuck have a turning point on his stay on the island. Chuck makes fire out of the friction of two sticks and starts his new skill of survival. The new skill led to other things and it wouldn’t take long for Chuck to have an idea about building a raft to leave the island. Kyale Rollins Final Exam

In Fahrenheit 451 Mildred and Clarisse aren't the main characters but they do affect his choices in the novel. They both are females in Montags life that he comes to like one as a lover and the other as a friend. they both make Montag think about his life and the choices he has to make. Even though they both influence him they do it in two veery different ways.

Mildred is his wife but she does eventually push him away. She does this by wanting to fit in and turninghim into the Salamanders for having books. What made her do it was she would rather fit in than go to jail for what her husband did. To her having nice things and friends was much more than her husband. Watching TV and ignoring here husband and what he had to say pushed him away as well. Her problem was she tried to be social by not being social like she was taught to do. so Mildred Showed Montag that the life they were livin was just material.

But when he was with Clarisse he found out how to actually be social . She made him tap into his intellect and have a conversasion with her. By being out going and herself helped to him experiment with reading and more into nature and life. Unlike Mildred she didn't care about what others thought of her and stopped took take a look at the flowers. Instead of watching TV she read and studied nature.

Both these women affected Montag in away that chaged his lfe. Mildred showed him a life of boredom and mediocrisie. Clarisse showed him that he be his own person and dorve him to his sanity.

Jessica Rocha-Jacinto Final Exam

In the journey of Chuck in Cast Away, he demonstrates that he is a hero. During his path he faces choices and obstacles, that make him transform into a new person that shows respect and has a renewal view on morals and values.

The initiation of his journey is while working for FedEx he is always on call. One of his first priorities is Kelly, his girlfriend. Even though sometimes his job intervenes with time that could be spent with her. He is always in a rush and runs his life on time. When something is accomplished he look at how much it took and forgets the fundamental purpose of why or what was done. While on dinner with Kelly he is called by his job, he chooses to board the airplane, than to stay with her.

During on the flight everything goes wrong and he ends up stranded on an unknown island, alone. He struggles in the beggining, he is know in a new place with no one to guide him. He acts independant, to find a technique and the resources to help him survive. He adapts to his new enviroment and has learned new skills to help accomidate with food, shelter, and water. Chuck knows how to catch the sea food, water to drink, and the most important how t make fire.

He has a friend by the name of Wilson (a volleyball). To him that is his mentor and motivation along with the picture of Kelly. He talks to Wilson and even argues with him. Those are the values that keep him alive. Even though he tries to commit suicide at some point, but then chooses not to. Chuck begins to transform into a new person.

With him no longer knowing what time it is or what day it is he knows time doesn't matter. He builds a raft with Wilson, after several failure attempts he becomes successfull. He goes over the reefs and is in the middle of the ocean, where some ship sees him and rescues him. He resumes back to his life. Even though it wasn't the same as when he left behind. Kelly is married with a child, his best friend's wife died, and he was been dead to everyone.

He might have felt as a failure because, he was gone so long and miss out, he couldn't be there for his friend or Kelly. He can't change what is,how it is all he can do is just deal with it . He continues his life still at FedEx, and even delivers a package he kept since he was on the island which shows respect. Chuck is a better person values accomplishments itself, and time. To me after all he went through we still lives which makes him a hero.

Rigoberto Rivera, Final Exam

The hero's journey is avery common in alot of films, storys, and also in art. In the story of Beowulf it is a very good example of the hero's journy. It shows you how Beowulf was a true hero.

Beowulf faces alot of obstacles on his way. The first was to fight Grendel. Beowulf is called to go and fight Grendel by the King Hrothgar, of Herot, because Grendal was eatting all of the soldiers. When Beowulf decides to fight Grendel, he does it with no weapon. He thinks that because he is the good one that god would be on his side. Beowulf succeeds in kiilling Grendel, and thats what brings him to hi second mission.

When Grendeldies, the mom got mad and started killing the people. So thats when Beowulf gets his second mission, to get rid of Grendel's mom. Beowulf then goes to Grendel's mother's swamp, but can't use his weapon because of this spell that she uses. So when he was battleing Grendel's mother, Beowulf ends up finding an axe. So then he kills her with the axe, and moves on to the next mission.

So his last mission was to kill the dragon, and take his treasure while your at it. No matter what it is to get the treasure. While in the cave all of Beowul's men run away exept for one called Wiglaf. When battling the dragon, beowulf gets severely injured. Still Beowulf manages to kill the dragon. Beowulf takes the treasure and gives it to the poor. Before he dies he tells Wiglaf to make him a mural on the cliff over the ocean. he also tells Wiglaf to throw his ashes into the ocean.

Beowulf truly is an epic hero. i mean killinbg both Grendel and Grendel's mother, and still the dragon. One he did it with no weapon, and the others with weapons. In the end also getting a mural done in honor for him. That is truly a real hero. One who will be remembered for a long time, even though its not real.

Fahrenheit 451

Mildred and Clarisse have very few things in common but what they do have in common is that they are both women. They both have some sort of relationship with Montag. They both have a few obsessive habits about one thing or another.
Mildred is more like the old fashion woman, She stays in home and lives off of Montag. She wants to be like everyone else by watching television and not thinking about anyone but herself. Mildred doesn't understand Montag, and why he wants to change. She also seems as if she hates her life but hides her emotions.
Clarisse is more of the modern woman. She reads books and thinks outside of what everyone else does and doesn't care what people think. Clarisse and Montag understand each other. She speaks her mind and cares more about other things then herself.
These differences and similarities help to develop the theme because they show how people can become if they try to fit in too much or how they would be treated if they were different. It also shows how women are treated in the world, they are thought to play a part and if they choose not to they become an outsider who are not even accepted among other women.

compare/contrast 2 key charecters_farenheit 451
These two charectersd help develop the themes in farenheit 451 by being complete opposites. in a world were almost every one is socialy the same Clarrise chooses to be herself(unsocial, wierd, ETC...). Mildred like everyone else does what everyone else does to be accepted/popular. Together they help the main charecter Montag realize that his life isnt what he wants it to be. When he meets clarrise he notices that she is differentand begins to take interest in things he used to ignore. At home he gets tired of every thing being the same with his wife mildred. Clarrise spends her time doing some thing new every day like watching grass grow, explores every where she can go ETC. Mildred sits home watching soap operas like all the other wifes and pretends she is in them, and talks with other wives about what they saw ETC. Slowly he began to change his thoughts, and life styles what used to be right to him became wrong. Clarrise was happy with being an out cast she didnt need any one to have a good time. Mildred just got through the days unhappy, she even tried to kill herself. Another difference is that clarrise is a young student and mildred is older and has no career or any thing to look forward to but her soap operas. After a while montag starts to read books when his job was to burn them, his life turned around 180 degres in the time we read about his life. The differences/similarities are endless in the book farenhiet 451 but both clarrise and mildred payed a role in montags transformation into the person he becomes at the end of the story.

Luisita Gutierrez Final exam

Castaway is one of the best movies I have seen this semester. The movie Castaway is not only about how to survive but how to value time too. In this movie chuck learns how to value and survive time as well. Chuck is a man that cares a lot about his job at Fed-x. He is always rushing through things and doesn't have much time for anything not even his girlfriend.
Chuck takes a plane and leaves his girlfriend behind thinking he'll come back soon, but little does he know something bad is about to happen. Chucks airplane crashes and practicaly all the passengers did not survive the accident. Chuck realizes he is stuck on the island and and all he can see is the pure blueness of the ocean ahead. He had lost his shoes in the accident and is walking bare footed. Chuck realizes he's very alone and doesn't know what to do.
Chuck had to overcome some obsticals. He became very hungry and thirsty. He found some coconuts but they were hard as a rock, he tryed breaking it in half but once he did all the juice spilled outof it. He became pretty mad, but tryed again, this time he found a rock and somewhat drilled a hole in it and drank the juice. Next he was hungry so he tryed to catch fish in the ocean water, but all he could catch were little tiny fish. When he was walking along the sand he saw that a man was floating in the water. He swam across to see if he was still alive but unfortunatly he was not. He draged him out of the water and took his shoes and some clothes. He found out he was a dilivery guy from Fed-x. He fond some shipment from Fed-x and took it, there was a box and in it was a dress, he also found a vollyball too. he went back and tryed to build a fire, he couldn't and he became very frustrated he even cut his hand, with that blood he drew a face on the vollyball and called it willson. He continued trying to start a fire while talking to his buddy willson, suddenly he saw some smoke and sparks coming out and soon became a fire out of two sticks. That was a major creation in this movie, he also made like a small shelter so that he could sleep inside of it. once he became so despreate and lonely he tryed killing himself but he remembered that he wanted to go back home. To survive being alone he keep a picture of his girlfriend and talked to willson, even though he didn't talk back he was there to listen he was Chucks companionship while he was stranded. He tryed to get pass the reef once but the waves were to big and strong it tilt him over and he cut his leg. As years went by he became a very good fisher, it was like if he had his own little home there. He wanted to go back home so bad he built a raft with a little shelter on it so that he could off the island, all he needed was to get passed the reef and the waves. When he was ready he went for it, the waves were big and strong and all he had in his head was to get back home. He finally passed the waves and said good-bye to the island he spent four years on.
After four years of being stranded on an island he returned home and the first place he went to was his girlfriends house. He learned to value time when straneded in making a fire, catching fish/food, building a shelter and a raft, passing the reef and having patience while being alone. When he learned to value his time he was more organized and had enough time for things.

The topic I chose to write about is the hero's journey. Ia m going to tell about Chuck's Heroes Journey. The reason I chose to write about Chuck is that he is a good example of the heroes journey. I also believe his journey has all of the elements of a heroes journey. The first thing I am going to write about is the calling.

Chuck's calling was his job, which was working for FedEx. The time always mattered to Chuck and his job. Chuck was always looking at the time as it was important to his job. His job was the thing that led him to the airport. The threshold in his journey was whether he should go or not. His choice to go was made at the airport.

The descent in his journey was when the plane crashed into the ocean. He managed to escape and float onto an island. This is also the abyss in the story. He was very angry and frustrated when he first got onto the island. He couldn't do anything because he was not used to the type of life he would soon have to learn to live on the island.

Chuck's mentor in the story is a volleyball that he got out of one of the FedEx boxes. He painted on a face and named it Wilson. Without Wilson I believe Chuck would not have been able to survive or keep his sanity on the island. Wilson is his mentor because he is there to keep Chuck company. The transformation happens when Chuck learn to make a fire, learn to fish, and take his tooth off with an ice skate and a rock. He eventually builds a raft that can go over the reef that was keeping him in.

His return comes when he gets to his girl's house. You could also say his return happens when he gets to the airport. His creation is that he learns to value and appreciate time. I believe Chuck truly changed his life. I also believe the events I wrote about make him a hero and I also believe his journey was a heroes journey.

The main character in the film gos through a lot of struggle. In the film time is important at some time. It all changes when something happens to Chuck. He has to survive one way or an other. he did whatever it took to survive, and time wasn't as important to him any more.

In the film Chuck cares a lot about his job. His job has to do with time which mad home care a lot about it. One day he had to go out of town to make a delivery. He got on the plane and the plane crashes. Every one on the plane died except Chuck, he gets stuck on an inland. He couldn't find a way to get back home.

Wild being stuck on the inland he had to learn how to survive. What i think kept him alive was his wife. He first tried to hunt finish and he couldn't. He kept on trying to open coca nuts to drink what had inside so he wouldn't die of thrust, but he couldn't. He found some packages and open them and he use all of them as tools and one as a friend. He used one of the tools to open the coca nuts. he named his friend Wilson, a valley ball that his blood got on cause of the cut he had on his hand. He had the cut because he was trying to make fire with two sticks. it was his best friend.

When he was trying to survive he Finlay makes fire. He also learns how to catch fish with a spear. then he makes a boat to get back home and he did. When he gets back home four years has already pass by and his girl was married with some one else and had children. They talked about what happened and had good bye sex. At the end he delivers the last package.

What i think compares to me is that i worry about time. When i relax i stop thinking about whats going to happen next. I think that if something like that happen to me i would kill my self. I don't think i would learn to survive either way. For shore i wouldn't know how to get back home. That's how it compares to me.

Ubaldo Torres Final Exam

In the story of Beowulf, the hero journey is shown real well. It start as King Hrothgar call Beowulf to kill Grendel. Then he call Beowulf again to kill Grendel's mother after she found out that they had killed her son. Then he is called once again to defeat the dragon and take his treasure. At last he is about to die and is respected and honored like a true hero.

In the beginning of the story when all the soldiers are having parties, Grendel gets annoyed so he decides to go slaughter the soldiers by eating them. He attacked and killed a few soldiers. That's when Beowulf was called by the King to kill Grendel. Like a hero Beowulf demonstrates his hero side by killing Grendel and by killing him with his bare hands. After Killing Grendel Herot became once again a calm place. Later on Grendel's Mother finds out and gets really angry knowing they killed her son, so she decide to go attack Herot.

Angrily she went and attacked. Once again Beowulf was called by the king to get rid of Grendel's angry mother. Beowulf as a hero comes and shows his skills by fighting Grendel's mom. When he went to her swamp and started fighting her he recognized that he was losing the battle so from her own place he grabbed an axe and killed her. Once again the city of Herot was peaceful and Beowulf had another victory and showed that he was a true hero.

Later on Beowulf did another thing that made him honored. He was told to go with a few of his men to slay the dragon and take his treasure and he went. When Beowulf and his few men started fighting the dragon he saw that it was a tough fight and most of his soldiers had left him alone with only one helper. That was Wiglaf. Together they fought and killed the dragon. They returned to the city with all the treasure and gave it to all the poor people. That is a true hero. After fighting the dragon Beowulf was injured badly. He knew that the injury was fatal and that he was going to die.

His last few words were to burn his body into ashes and to be thrown into the ocean where they would built a mound of land and name it after his name. In those days burning someone into ashes was a huge honor to that person. That shows that Beowulf really was honored, respected, and seen as a true hero by his people. That show a true hero's journey.

Frances Reyes, final exam

Chuck learned how to value time for himself, job, family, and friends. He was stranded on an island for a long time without anything but himself. He had plenty of time to think about his life. He learned a very valuable lesson on the island, how to value time.

When Chuck left his girlfriend on a holiday to go do his job; You can tell he was committed to his job. I see nothing wrong with being committed to work, I think it should be to a certain point though. Don't let control your life. Make your time valuable and do work, spend time with family and friends too. One day you wont have what you have now. I mean one day you probably wont have anyone but yourself and you'll miss it just like Chuck did. That's only learning the hard way.

Like when Chuck was stranded on the island and he had no one. He started to think. Think about his girlfriend, his family, what would have happened if he put them first then his job. Would he be on the island at that time? I guess he thought, what now? All he had now was the island and nothing but memories.

Me to be stranded on an island would be a nightmare. As i think it was for Chuck too. I wouldn't like it at all. I would miss my family, my friends, my boyfriend. To think of myself alone, I would go crazy. That's why i always try to spend time with the people i love. I have a job and go to school but i make time for everyone in my life.

Chuck learned that the hard way but he learned to value it. His story made me think a lot and I learned from it too. I always try to value the time I spend with people and am grateful I can. It's what makes me happy. That's what life is about, being happy.

Allot of people think that Chuck is not a hero, but in reality he really is one. He has experienced and dealt with things that no person ever has.
Unlike his girlfriend, Kelly Chuck is always focused on time. That's all he really cares about especially since he works as a FedEx guy. Chuck is so into time that he really never has any time for himself, or his girlfriend. Until one day he was called in for work to deliver more packages. This would be the last time he dared talk about time, for he would no longer have the use for it.
That same night the plane that Chuck was in crashed into the sea. This is where his journey begins. Chuck was thrown into the unknown waters. Until he landed on an Island, an Island where you can't seem to escape. When Chuck gets on the Island, well lets just say that he's not that very well skilled at all. Chuck has been on that Island for the longest time, where he learns so much more that he ever thought he could.
All lonely he creates a friend, Wilson a volleyball. Wilson is his only friend, his only trustee on the deserted Island. Even though Wilson his best friend cannot talk, Chuck seems to express himself to him. There on the Island Chuck learns many ways on how to get off the Island. His only wish is to get back home to Kelly, his only inspiration comes from Wilson.
After so many tries and frustrations Chuck finally builds something strong enough to get off the Island. With the raft he built he then is found in the middle of the ocean where he is taken back to Civilization.
When Chuck gets back home, he realized that he no longer cares about time or even craves it. With all the struggles he has been through, he came back a as a new man. Chuck realized he is a good man and that he doesn't need to think about time all the time. He changed ever since he got back home and off that deserted Island.

Conformity , conformity is the root in witch that control grows. If you can get the majority of people to believe and feel the same way about something than you are one step closer to total control. The problem with humans today is that were getting so wrapped up in the modern convenience of our world that we're losing grip of what once was reality, slowly being devoured by carnivorous technology . Guy montag was a member of this grey boring world in witch every one was only concerned with themselves, he worked and went home thats really it. He was a fire man dedicated to the creation of fire , he burned books; the last remnance of the greatest moments of creation ...burned into nothing exept ashes .
Clarisse was the fresh aired breeze that hit Montag unexpected ly showing him this world is not as it seems she was a seeker of knowledge ,the break in the chain she wanted true definition. In the end man has created an image for himself based on the experience that man has had through the past ,the links that hold his personality bound through everything he has said and done up until the moment he dies ,when individuality is taken away from that man he is left with and empty past theres is nothing left to define us him thus, he turns into grey a shapeles person this world wants to create .the book showed that a man can be "resurected " so to speack to have his inner individual return to him .

Sherri Spatz---Final Exam

Chuck Noland in the movie Castaway, is a good demonstration of a hero's journey. He is a man in a business of being on time, that would be FedEx. His journey begins when he had to fly and deliver his shipment. But, on his way to make the delivery the plane crashed into the ocean, near a deserted island. He searched for other survivors, there was no one.

Chuck found useful items in FedEx boxes, in order for him to survive. He found a skate, which he used the blade to peel the husk off the coconuts and used it to knock out his abscessed tooth. He learned how to build a fire with wood and to fish for his food. His biggest accomplishment was building a raft, to get over the reef without hurting himself.

I know that he wouldn't make it, if he didn't have any inspiration. The inspiration he had was the volleyball he called Wilson and the picture of his girlfriend. It shows that he's a hero just by the things you see him go through in order for him to make it off the island alive.

In his return for his girlfriend, he was too late. She was already married and had a baby. In a way, i think that he shouldn't have been expecting her to wait for all those years of him not being there. Although, she knew he was alive and should've stuck to her insticnts. With his journey, the most important thing he learned was, to value time.

Chuck is a hero, whether he may seem like it or not. He endured and experienced more than any other man would in real life.
Chuck's life is controlled by time. His job being a FedEx guy, time is all he worries about. That's what his calling is. His threshold point is at the airport when he decides to leave his fiance behind. He leaves her the ring, which he never gets to give to her. When he got on that plane he was going into the unknown , as the plane crashed that's the symbolism of the decent.
Chucks begins his actual journey when he is in the ocean and lands in an unknown island. He's alone for the longest time till he befriends a volleyball and names is Wilson. Wilson doesn't actually talk (obvious because he's a ball) but he helps Chuck keep the bit of sanity he has left. With Wilson by his side chuck started to transform into a better skilled man. He didn't care about time. On this island there is no time just survival.
He gets enough skill and knowledge about the tides and the island to be able to get off the island. He is found in the middle of the ocean. When he gets back to civilization he no longer sees time as a factor of life.
Chuck went through this whole journey without any skills whatsoever and came back a changed man. He knew how to spear fish, make fire, and survive on an unknown island. This is why chuck is a true hero. he doesn't help people, but he helped himself in such a way.
